The Captains Flat Rural Fire Brigade are one of several Rural Fire Service (RFS) units which was established in 1952 within the Yarrowlumla/Queanbeyan Fire District. We are a small but active Brigade of highly trained and dedicated volunteers who give up their free time to serve the region and community. Our members come from all walks of life and bring with them personal skills. There are occasions when we are called upon to attend out of region operations as part of a task group to assist when the need arises away from home. These operations can take us many kilometres from our homes, families and workplaces. Many of us have the support of our employers for which we and the community are most appreciative in times of need.
Our Vehicle Fleet consists of:
- a Category 1 Heavy Tanker with 3300 litres of water (callsign Captains Flat 1)
- a Category 7 Light Tanker with 1600 litres of water (callsign Captains Flat 7A)
- a Category 7 Light Tanker with 1600 litres of water (callsign Captains Flat 7B)
Captains Flat is situated 45kms east of Queanbeyan in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales. We are an active group and well equipped for whatever task that is given to us. Our primary task is Bush and Grass Fire control and suppression. We are also involved with structural fires, motor vehicle accidents, storm damage, search and rescue as well as providing assistance in other supporting tasks when required. New members are always made welcome and can contact us through the contact link on this site or come along to one of our training sessions. We hold regular training sessions (second and fourth Sunday of each month at 0900hrs) and a monthly meeting (at 1900 on the third Monday of the month). We provide training locally or dedicated courses provided by the NSW Rural Fire Service accredited training packages.
